Jeddah University, represented by the College of Applied Medical Sciences, organized a World Sight Day event under the slogan “Quality Vision, Quality of Life.” The event was held at the university’s conference center and was attended by faculty members, students from the Optometry Department, representatives from various university departments, and a number of beneficiaries.
This event underscores the university’s leading role in the field of eye health. It is distinguished by having the only Optometry Department in the Western Region, which is a specialized academic department dedicated to training qualified professionals and providing high-quality optical services to the community.
Dr. Karim Langawi, Head of the Optometry Department, explained that organizing such events aims to raise awareness about the importance of eye care and disease prevention, as well as emphasizing the role of early detection in maintaining eye health and quality of life.
The event included several awareness booths and free eye examinations, including vision tests, eye pressure measurements, lens prescriptions, and color blindness screening. In addition, there were educational presentations and specialized workshops on eye health, presented by a select group of specialists and students from the university’s Optometry Department.
This initiative aims to promote eye health for staff and students as a key element of organizational well-being, by fostering a university environment that prioritizes the quality of life for its members and raising community awareness about the importance of eye disease prevention.
The event witnessed significant engagement from visitors and students, who expressed their appreciation for the services, examinations, and valuable educational information provided.
At the conclusion of the event, participating organizations and volunteers were recognized for their efforts in making it a success, amidst widespread praise from attendees for the university's outstanding educational content in the field of eye health.
